Cure Department 1+2 | Active Listening Session der Installation „Cure Departments“ & Gesprächsrunde mit Dirk Sorge

In der Installation werden zwei Abteilungen der Reihe „Cure Departments“ gezeigt. Die Stimmgabel, die mit 528 Hertz schwingt, soll laut Angabe im Onlineshop die menschliche DNA reparieren. 528 Hertz ist eine der sogenannten Solfeggio-Frequenzen. Die Besucher*innen der Ausstellung dürfen die Stimmgabel selbst anschlagen und den heilenden Klang kostenlos ausprobieren.
Die zweite Abteilung nutzt diese und 8 weitere Solfeggio-Frequenzen, um eine audiovisuelle Komposition zu generieren. Die Idee der Heilung durch Klänge suggeriert, dass der Mensch wie ein verstimmtes Musikinstrument richtig eingestellt werden muss, damit er funktioniert. Was dabei „richtig“ ist und woher diese genormte Stimmung kommt, wird aber nicht hinterfragt. Die Frage wird verdeckt durch diffuse Hinweise auf die Zahlenmystik von Pythagoras, Mönchsgesänge im Mittelalter und vage Bezüge zum Buddhismus. Die Bevormundung durch die Schulmedizin wird durch ein anderes paternalistisches System ersetzt, das ebenfalls aus der Hoffnung auf Heilung Kapital generiert.

Cure Department 1+2 | Active listening session of the installation “Cure Departments” & Q&A round with Dirk Sorge

Two departments of the series “Cure Departments” will be shown in the installation. The tuning fork, which vibrates at 528 hertz, is said to repair human DNA, according to the online shop. 528 hertz is one of the so-called Solfeggio Frequencies. Exhibition visitors are allowed to hit the tuning fork themselves and try out the healing sound free of charge.
The second department uses these and 8 other Solfeggio Frequencies to generate an audio-visual composition. The idea of healing through sound suggests that, like an out-of-tune musical instrument, the human being must be properly tuned in order to function. But what is “right” about this and where this standardised tuning comes from is not questioned. The question is obscured by diffuse references to the number mysticism of Pythagoras, monk chants in the Middle Ages and vague references to Buddhism. The paternalism of orthodox medicine is replaced by another paternalistic system that also generates capital from the hope of healing.
