Die Konstruktion, Nutzung und der Abriss von Gebäuden haben einen problematischen ökologischen Fußabdruck, der sich einerseits in Abfall und andererseits in Emissionen widerspiegelt. Zum Beispiel verursachte der Gebäudesektor Im Jahr 2021 deutschlandweit 40% der CO2-Emissionen. Zudem entsteht in vielen europäischen Ländern durch die Baubranche mehr als die Hälfte des gesamten Abfallaufkommens.
Das von Georg Hubmann (TU Berlin) und Vera van Maaren (C-Creators) ins Leben gerufene Projekt 'Zirkuläre Materialsysteme' zielt auf die Darstellung und Katalogisierung von Praktiken der Wiederverwendung im Bausektor ab. Durch Fallstudien einzelner Gebäude wird das regionale und sektorspezifische Wissen rund um geschlossene Materialkreisläufe sichtbar gemacht. Dadurch ergibt sich ein neuer Blick auf Architektur, die nicht mehr als Müllerzeuger, sondern als Materialdepot funktioniert. Außerdem entsteht eine bautechnische Sprache, die dem Zeitalter des Anthropozäns angepasst ist.
Die Ausstellung wird von Studierenden der TU Berlin im Rahmen einer X-Student Research Group erarbeitet. Der Ausstellungsraum verwandelt sich in ein temporäres Lab, in dem das Thema der Ausstellung weiterbearbeitet und in Form von öffentlichen Vorträgen sowie einer Podiumsdiskussion weiter diskutiert wird. Gefördert wird das Projekt von der Berlin University Alliance (BUA) und der Botschaft des Königreichs der Niederlande. Die Realisierung erfolgt in Kooperation mit Concluar, Madaster, der Material Mafia und Circular Berlin.

Circular Practices in Construction | Exhibition by students of TU Berlin

The construction, use, and demolition of buildings have a problematic ecological footprint, which is reflected in waste on the one hand and emissions on the other. For example, in 2021, the building sector caused 40% of CO2 emissions in Germany. In addition, it is common that in many European countries, the construction sector generates more than half of the total waste produced.
The project 'Circular Material Systems', launched by Georg Hubmann (TU Berlin) and Vera van Maaren (C-Creators), aims to map and catalogue circular practices in the building sector. Through case studies of individual buildings, the regional and sector-specific knowledge around closed material loops is made visible. This research provides a new perspective of architecture as a material depot. The identified practices let an architectural language emerge that is adapted to the age of the Anthropocene.
The exhibition is being developed by students of the TU Berlin as part of an X-Student Research Group. The exhibition space will be transformed into a temporary lab where the theme of the exhibition will be further developed and discussed in the form of public lectures and a panel discussion. The project is supported by the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is realised in cooperation with Concluar, Madaster, Material Mafia, and Circular Berlin.
